After a soggy end to last week and a soggy start to this past week, many of us in eastern North Carolina are welcoming a drier forecast for this week. Much of the region has seen between two and three inches of rain from the middle of last week through Saturday. Here's a look at some of the rainfall totals:

  • Hatteras -- 3.06"
  • Manteo -- 2.50"
  • Beaufort -- 2.49"
  • Jacksonville -- 2.40"
  • Wilmington -- 2.22"

There is no rain in sight for Monday. Just look for sunshine all day with highs warming to the mid 50s in the afternoon. Lows will drop to the 30s late Monday night into Tuesday morning.

A cold front will pass through the state Tuesday. The only chance for precipitation with the front in the state will come in the mountains where snow showers are likely. Here in eastern North Carolina we'll see a mix of clouds and sun with highs warming to near 60. It will become quite breezy late in the day.

Colder air will arrive behind the front Tuesday night. Lows will drop to the upper 20s in much of the region by Wednesday morning. The wind could make it feel more like the teens to near 20.
