WILMINGTON, N.C. -- In an effort to help curb hunger for those in need during the holidays, one cupboard is Filling the shelves with donations.

Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard received over seven thousand dollars worth of food and supplies from Cape Fear Realtors.

"So coming down here and being able to provide food and nourishment for them, the people that are less fortunate than many of us are in our community, it means a lot to me. Particularly around the holiday season,” says President of Cape Fear Realtors, Neal Johnson.

Staff with the cupboard say it’s great to see the community come together to help out.

"Especially this time of year, it means a lot. Because we only do get government food once a month and getting this material in today is really going to help the people who are coming for the next couple weeks, because we'll have enough to give them,” says Volunteer Peter Fritz.

The cupboard is helping mothers like Alyssa Garcia stock up on nutritious meals to help feed her three children through the holidays.

“If I need something or if I ask for something extra, I’m not hesitant to say it because I know they’re more than welcomed to help me out,“ says Garcia.
