NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. -- According to Nourish NC, 1 in 4 children in the Cape Fear region struggle with hunger. That’s why the non-profit is working to make sure students in New Hanover County are well fed over Christmas break.

More than 1,000 kids are set to receive a "holiday break box" that includes items such as milk, juice, snacks, and frozen ground turkey among other things.

“It’ll be about 30,000 pounds of food. And that doesn’t include the 5,000 pounds of fresh produce that we also get. So it’s a massive undertaking. Our shelves will be cleared out,” said Steve McCrossan, Nourish NC.
