You may want to find some time over the next couple days to find your warmest sweaters and heavy winter coat. We'll need them by the end of this week and the upcoming weekend.

A midweek cold front will signal a change to a colder weather pattern across the Carolinas that may stick around for a while.

Before the cold blast arrives, temperatures will be mild for the next couple of days. Monday's highs will warm to the mid 60s across eastern North Carolina. For Tuesday, temperatures will range from the 50s in the morning to near 70 and the low 70s in the afternoon.

A few spotty light rain showers are possible late Monday night and early Tuesday morning near the immediate coast. Most of the day Tuesday should be dry though.

We should all see a band of showers Wednesday morning ahead of the midweek cold front. The mountains of western North Carolina could see snow showers early Wednesday morning, but only rain outside of the mountains.

The highest chance for rain Wednesday here in eastern North Carolina should come between 6 and 11 a.m.  Less than a half of an inch of rain is expected. Daytime highs in the low 60s could occur early in the day and fall through the afternoon.

The front may then stall off our coast. Waves of low pressure moving along the front will give us a 30 percent chance for showers Thursday and a 60 percent chance for showers Friday.

Thursday's highs will only top out in the mid 50s. Temperatures may then hold in the 40s for most of the day Friday.

Dry and chilly weather is in the forecast for the upcoming weekend with highs in the upper 40s to near 50 and lows in the 20s and 30s. Colder than average temperatures for December are expected to then continue through the following week.
