CHARLOTTE -- Class of 2011 NASCAR Hall of Famer Walter "Bud" Moore has died.

In a release from NASCAR Hall of Fame, Executive Director Winston Kelley said, "First and foremost, on behalf of everyone at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, we offer our most sincere condolences to the entire Moore family. Walter “Bud” Moore was truly a hero in every sense of the word."

Moore dedicated nearly 40 years to NASCAR, working as a mechanic for some of the industry's top drivers including Hall of Famers Dale Earnhardt, David Pearson and Bobby Allison.

He was from Spartanburg, South Carolina and served in the army, where he was awarded with five Purple Hearts and two Bronze Starts for his bravery and service during World War II.

Moore was 92.
