WILMINGTON -- The NC Department of Environmental Quality is investigating a spike in GenX levels in the Cape Fear River.

Chemours told state officials that GenX levels in samples collected from Oct. 27-30 had reached 2,400 parts per trillion or PPT, and 290 PPT from Oct. 21 through Nov. 2.

The recommended health goal is 140 PPT.

Officials say Chemours is supposed to capture GenX before it's released into the river.

The news comes just one week after DEQ moved to revoke Chemours dumping permit.
