WILMINGTON -- 150 teams and roughly 2,200 players are on the way to Wilmington for the annual Beach Soccer Classic.

The 2 day event features 500 games. Tourism officials says the tournament brings in $2.2 million worth of economic impact.

“Our hope is that when these families stay here in the off-season they come back and see us as tourists and spend money during the busier season,” program director Dani Pittmans says.

The tournament begins Saturday morning and ends Sunday afternoon in New Hanover County.
