BOONE -- Many areas in Boone were underwater including the Walmart parking lot Monday.

It was a long and hard day for residents as the rain kept coming down for hours. Complexes were flooded and water was up to the front doors and cars, submerged.

And behind the homes, an apartment complex with people trapped on the top floor. Emergency response teams worked to get to them and bring them to safety.

“I got off the bus and i saw it underwater,” Julia Stewart, a resident, said.

Just around the corner in the Walmart parking lot multiple vehicles sitting in deep water.

One of these vehicles belonged to Julia Stuart. She said the water was everywhere, all over her sweater and the floorboard. She was shocked when she got off the bus and saw her truck in the water

“I'm freaked out I’ve never been in a flood before,” she said.

But in a day filled with sadness, there is a glimpse of hope when people come out just to help one another, like Edward Gravley.

“I'm just one guy. I may not be able to do a lot, but love, care and support goes a long way,” he said.

Gravley did not have a car in this parking lot but came to help people get the water out of their cars. Something other residents are grateful for.
