We'll experience another temperature-rollercoaster this week. This weekend, highs around 80 seemingly blur the line between the feeling of late summer and early fall compared to more typical highs for late October in the low to mid 70s.

All that is about to change.

A strong cold front will drop our highs to as low as the 60s midweek despite ample sunshine. Early morning lows will likely be in the 40s, with upper 30s possible in some spots, a few days this week.

Not only will we need to trade in the short sleeves for jackets and sweaters later this week, but the threat for stormy weather ahead of the front will be our first weather related concern.

The front will likely move across the region late Monday into early Tuesday. Scattered showers and storms will increase across central North Carolina late Monday and Monday evening. Showers and storms may not move into eastern parts of the state until closer to midnight.

Some of the storms may be strong to severe. Any storms that do become severe will bring a threat of damaging winds. Also, heavy downpours can be expected with some of the stronger storms.

Much of the stormy weather will occur late at night, possibly past your bedtime. You are urged to have a way to receive severe weather alerts for your area such as an NOAA weather radio or via your cell phone.

Rain chances will decrease from west to east early Tuesday. Cooler air moves in behind the front with temperatures dropping to around 50 Wednesday morning in most spots. Look for highs in the low and mid 60s Wednesday and Thursday.

Highs rebound to the low and mid 70s late in the week.
