High pressure continues as the dominant weather feature for the rest of the week and early part of the weekend. Clear skies at night with plenty of sunshine expected from the Mountains and across the Piedmont. We'll note a moderate warming trend through the end of the week with temps in the mid to upper 70s, across the Piedmont, and mid 60s to upper 60s in the Mountains. Our next best chance for rain will be early next week.

Severe weather won't be the "perfect storm" in the mountains this weekend. As above, the weather looks outstanding. The storm refers to a series of major events taking place this weekend that will draw tens of thousands of people to the High Country. Appalachian State has a home football game (Boone), the Valle Country Fair (Valle Crucis), the 40th annual Woolly Worm Festival (Banner Elk), and prime viewing for the peak of leaf season, will be a magnet for folks. Expect busy roads, packed restaurants and a Fall "bustle" that often isn't seen as all of these events align to make the "Perfect Storm" of tourists.  Pack your patience, and tip well, drive safe and have fun!
