KINSTON, N.C. – A good Samaritan was robbed while trying to help a man lying in the street.

Joseph Herring told officers he saw a man lying in the roadway while driving on McDaniels and East Shine Streets.

When he stopped to check on him, another man ran up to him, pointed a gun and demanded money.

Herring gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash and both the man lying in the street and the armed subject ran towards the Simon Bright area.

He says the men were in their early 20s wearing hoodies.

Kinston police urge caution in situations like these, especially after dark.

They say it's best to call 911 so officers can respond.
