FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Mourners gathered in Fayetteville on Wednesday to pay their respects to fallen Staff Sgt. Bryan Black.

Around 200 people gathered in and around the Northwood Temple on Ramsey Street to remember and honor Staff Sgt. Black’s life.

Black was one of four soldiers killed in an attack in Niger on Oct. 4.

He was a Green Beret Medic with the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) from Fort Bragg at the time of his death.

Black is remembered as being a passionate soldier who learned Hausa so he could communicate directly with the Nigerien people.

The 35-year-old soldier joined the Army in 2009. He leaves behind a wife and two sons.
