PINEVILLE, N.C. -- A man has been arrested after Mecklenburg County Elementary School canceled classes Tuesday because of a police investigation.

A news release from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police on Tuesday said 37-year-old Isaac James Burch was arrested on a fugitive warrant from Michigan.

The news release said Kannapolis police notified CMPD after receiving information that Burch was on his way to the state to kill his wife, who worked at that location.

The school closed its doors as a precautionary measure because of a threat from out of state.

According to police, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police located a truck that Burch had been driving outside the hotel where he was located and took him into custody.

"Children's safety is our primary concern,” said Wilcox. “We weren't certain until last night that we could ensure that. So, we canceled school."

Some parents say they never got the message that classes were canceled. A spokesperson said the school would reopen Wednesday.
