WILMINGTON-- About 30 kids and teens who are visually impaired are getting the opportunity of a lifetime, learning to surf.

Indo Jax Surf School in Wrightsville Beach is hosting its 9th annual Visually Impaired Surf Camp this week, sponsored by the Helen Keller Foundation.

Surf instructors said they enjoy watching the kids grow and building relationships with them.

"Build self-esteem and get them out in the water and see what we can do to help their life a little bit," said surf instructor Justin Heter.

Indo Jax Surf School has several charity surf camps each year, free of charge, for those with special needs.
