RALEIGH, N.C. -- A popular Disney film turned Broadway musical is coming to life on stage this week, as the newsboys seize the day and strike against unfair working conditions in the highly popular film turned musical NEWSIES.

The David-versus-Goliath themed play may have been set during the 1890s, but there's no question the themes still resonate with audiences who are traveling to town from far and wide today.

Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair went In Depth with veteran Broadway actor Merwin Foard who plays Joseph Pulitzer, and North Carolina Theatre newcomer Daniel Plimpton, who plays Davey. Both actors say this show is one that is sure to thrill audiences, with the upbeat pace, catchy songs, and non-stop dancing action.

The adaptation has songs many of us have grown to know and love, but eight new songs will also entertain audiences.  And if you think you won’t have anything to relate to in show set in the 1800s, guess again. NEWSIES touches on social injustice, hard labor practices and the man versus worker struggles that many people are still faced with today.

The high energy musical is full of veteran cast members and newcomers, who will take the stage at Raleigh’s Memorial Auditorium at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh, July 24 through July 29.
