DURHAM, N.C. -- Remembering an important day in American history, that’s what folks will be doing in Downtown Durham this Saturday, at the 14th annual North Carolina Juneteenth celebration.

The event remembers the end of the Civil War and thus the end of slavery 153 years ago. The event, on East Main Street in Durham, is titled “Ending of Slavery: The Ultimate Grassroots Movement."

The fun, inspiring and educational event will be filled with performers, entertainment, information, food, merchandise games, a health fair, exhibitors and a kids zone. The fun runs Saturday, June 16 from 1 to 10 p.m. on East Main Street between Roxboro and Dillard Streets.

The event is free and open to the public.
