RALEIGH -- You likely know Steve Martin from his longstanding movie career, time on Saturday Night Live, or even for his banjo picking and sweet tunes alongside bluegrass chart toppers the Steep Canyon Rangers.  But it’s Martin’s critically acclaimed Broadway musical Bright Star that’s lighting up the stage in Raleigh this week.

Inspired by real events, the story is set in North Carolina in the 1920s and 1940s and tells the story of love and redemption through rich emotion, powerful performances, and beautiful music.

The 2016 Outer Critics Circle Award Winning and Tony nominated Best Musical is the the brain-child of Grammy, Emmy and Academy Award-winner Steve Martin and Grammy Award-winner Edit Brickell. It is making a sort of homecoming to Raleigh where much of the story is set to take place.

Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair sat down with two of the shows stars, Audrey Cardwell who plays Alice Murphy, and Patrick Cummings who plays Jimmy Ray Dobbs, and who also starred in the Broadway version of the same play.

The actors talk about everything from the plot line to their nerves performing in Raleigh to just how much this story means to audiences young and old.

If you would like to come see Bright Star, it’s taking place now through Sunday, April 22 at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing arts.
