RALEIGH – If you’re hungry but maybe not ready for your next meal, it’s time to celebrate because February is National Snack Food Month. The recognition started back in 1989, but since then, snacking trends have changed.

Registered Dietitian Ashley Acornley works at Triangle Nutrition Therapy. She says more and more people are looking for easy health conscious options. Acornley says to stay away from processed foods and look for snacks with high levels of protein. She sat down with Spectrum News Anchor Caroline Blair and offered some examples.

She says mixed nuts with dried fruit, celery and hummus, apples and nut butter, protein shakes and lean meats like chicken are all healthy options. However, as a trainer with Fueled & Fit, she also says it’s important to exercise as well.
