Charlotte, NC -- Brad Lambert will not be back as head coach of the Charlotte 49ers football program in 2019. Sunday, 49ers Director of Athletics Mike Hill announced Lambert will not be retained after the season. He will stay on to coach the team in their final game of the year next Saturday at Florida Atlantic.

Lambert has been the head coach of Charlotte football since it's inception in 2011. The news comes a day after the 49ers lost 42-35 to Florida International to end any hopes the team had of getting to six wins and bowl eligibility.

In a statement released by the school, Hill said, "It is a decision I made after an opportunity to assess my first football season here. It’s about the trajectory of the program and putting us in the best position for the future. We elected to make this decision now so that we could begin the search immediately."

NC Charlotte Chancellor Philip Dubois said, “We could not have found a better man than Brad Lambert to start our program and we appreciate all of Brad’s years of service in building a program with character and integrity.”

Hill echoed that sentiment, adding, “We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to coach Lambert for the foundation he established, the culture that he built and the student-athletes he brought into our program.”

In six seasons Lambert has compiled a 21-48 record.
