CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers hit the road to Atlanta in Week 2 of the NFL season. Here's a look at some of Wednesday’s headlines from practice.

WILLIAMS TO IR, CLARK SIGNED

The Panthers placed tackle Daryl Williams on injured reserve, and signed tackle Chris Clark. Clark is an 11-year veteran, who started eight games for the Houston Texans last season, before an ankle injury ended his campaign.

“He’s a veteran guy who’s done it,” Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday. “He’s started in this league. He’s in great shape right now, so we felt really good about bringing a guy in that does things the right way.”

As for Clark, his trip to Charlotte was a whirlwind, but he practiced with the team on Wednesday.

“I’m familiar with some of the calls,” Clark said after Wednesday’s practice. “I’m dialed in, so I’m gonna take a shower, and dial right back in. I told my wife, ‘I’m probably not gonna call you tonight,’ but I’ll get it done.”

WEDNESDAY INJURY REPORT

Five players did not practice on Wednesday. A surprise to see right guard Trai Turner on the report, as he was diagnosed with a concussion. Rivera said Wednesday that Turner has been placed in the concussion protocol.

No surprise that tight end Greg Olsen was not on the field, after re-fracturing his right foot on Sunday. Receiver Damiere Byrd was held out of practice with a knee issue, while Curtis Samuel remains out with a medical issue. Running back CJ Anderson was sick (officially listed as “illness”).

Defensive tackle Vernon Butler (shoulder), and safety Colin Jones (knee) were limited in practice.

Linebacker Luke Kuechly (knee), and safety Da’Norris Searcy (chest) were listed as full participants.

ROOKIE JACKSON EARNING HIGH PRAISE

Donte Jackson has exactly one NFL game under his belt, but his cornerback counterparts have taken notice that he has grown into the starter’s role he earned in training camp.

Jackson made a play Sunday that was still being talked about in the locker room on Wednesday. A stop on Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott, when the shifty runner cut back. Jackson matched that move, and brought down the Cowboys ball carrier.

“If you can find corners that can tackle, that’s....wow, (a guy) that can make that cut-back tackle on that type of running back, that’s like wow,” cornerback Captain Munnerlyn explained. “It definitely opened our eyes up, that ‘Oh yeah, he’s ready....he’s ready to take that next step.”

FASHION UPDATE

Rivera has become a coach that supports his players endeavors in many ways, one of them being wearing the t-shirt that represents a group, or a charitable cause. Wednesday, Rivera met reporters after the open locker room session ended wearing a shirt given to him by the members of the Panthers special teams unit.

The picture on the front looked like an album cover, with long snapper JJ Jansen, kicker Graham Gano, and punter Michael Palardy dressed in what could best be described as rock star apparel.

The “album” of the groups creation was titled “FIGOS,” but Rivera quickly pronounced it as “field goals.”
