CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sunday the Carolina Panthers put starting left tackle Matt Kalil on injured reserve, designated for return. It means Kalil can come off IR after eight games.

“We’re putting Matt on injured reserve to give him time to fully rehab the knee,” General Manager Marty Hurney said. “We decided to make the move now so he’s eligible to come back after eight games.”

To replace Kalil on the roster, the team signed cornerback Lorenzo Doss off the practice squad.

The new brighter for two other offensive linemen, Amini Silatolu and Daryl Williams, both practiced on a limited basis Sunday.

Silatolu, who tore his meniscus in his left knee Aug. 7, says he's 100 percent and hopes to play in the season opener versus Dallas.

Williams, who dislocated the patella and tore his medial collateral ligament in his right knee July 28, says he is ahead of schedule but is taking a wait and see approach to his season.
