SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The stifling heat and humidity of Camp Wofford is officially over for the Carolina Panthers.

  • Camp ended 20 minutes earlier than scheduled
  • Coach Rivera's camp MVP were the team trainers
  • Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Friday

Thanks to tackle Taylor Moton, and defensive tackle Dontari Poe, it actually ended 20 minutes earlier than scheduled, after the hulking linemen cleanly caught punts delivered from Michael Palardy.

"I wasn't worried about it," a confident Moton said after practice. "I wasn't thinking about anything, but just keeping my eyes up on it, and cradling it in."

The clean catches from Moton and Poe knocked off the final practice period, and allowed the players to hit the road a little earlier, but Head Coach Ron Rivera slyly indicated that special teams may have a new addition in Poe.

"Don't tell anybody," Rivera said with a grin. "It's a secret."

The Panthers leave Spartanburg having endured three difficult injuries. Offensive linemen Darryl WIlliams (knee), and Amini Silatolu (knee) will be out for an extended period of time, while cornerback Ross Cockrell was lost for the season with a broken leg.

Rivera's training camp MVP? The team trainers.

"I loved everything they did," said Rivera. "I thought they were on top of their game, and I'm being serious. We had some days that were unusually hot. When you have guys cramping up, and you have to take them out, and then put them back out, I think that was something that was really big. I thought RV (Ryan Vermillion), and his staff were stellar, the doctors came in. Especially the hot days. People don't realize hot difficult that can be on players."

The team will "get away for a day and a half," according to Rivera, and then reconvene for practice Wednesday in Charlotte, and then host the Miami Dolphins on Friday Night at Bank of America Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., and the game can be seen on Spectrum News.
