RALEIGH, N.C. — A Cabarrus County woman is celebrating after the birth of her baby girl and a $100,000 lottery win came on the same day.

Brenda Gomez Hernandez gave birth on Nov. 9 to a baby girl. During the Powerball drawing that same night, the 28-year-old housekeeper matched numbers on four white balls and the Powerball to secure a $50,000 win.

“I feel like she brought me my luck,” Hernandez said. “I’m so thankful.”

To make it even better, the prize then doubled to $100,000 when she got the 2X Power Play multiplier.

“When I found out I cried,” she said. “I’m just so excited and happy.”

Hernandez, a mother of two when she purchased the $3 Quick Pick winning ticket from a Quik Trip on Warren C. Coleman Boulevard in Concord, says she used her two sons' birthdays to pick the numbers.

She says she will use a large portion of the winnings to pay toward her house.
