RALEIGH, N.C. -- In a snow day Twitter thread, the Wake County Public School System responded to criticism that the winter weather was a prime example why there should be multiple school systems in the county.

Many critics who want to separate the school district are in favor of neighborhood schools. It all started when a user on Twitter tweeted at the school system, saying that there should be two school systems in Wake County because different areas in the county could have different weather conditions during inclement weather.

In the thread, the school system responded and gave examples as to why the school system is countywide, including points about diversity and segregation, which referenced an article from The New York Times magazine reporter and UNC alumna Nikole Hannah Jones.

Wake County used to have two school systems until 1976 when the Wake County School System and Raleigh City Schools became one.

The Wake County School System is the largest school system in North Carolina and one of the biggest in the nation.
