CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The winter storm that we have been talking about for days is now moving in.

  • Snow has already started piling up in the mountains
  • Charlotte could very much look like the picture above by Sunday afternoon
  • Conditions will start to improve by later Monday

Snow has already started piling up in the mountains with plenty more on the way. In fact, the foothills and mountains may get 1 to 2 feet of heavy snow by late Sunday!

We don't expect quite as much farther east, but there could still be as much as a foot from Statesville south to Shelby. We expect 3 to 7 inches from Gastonia through Charlotte and north to Salisbury and 1 to 3 inches from Albemarle south to Monroe and points east.

Charlotte could very much look like the picture above by Sunday afternoon. Areas south and east of I-85 may also have significant ice accumulations with power outages and downed trees.

This is a very dangerous winter storm. Your best bet is to hunker down and rides this one out. Conditions will start to improve by later Monday. See all the latest storm information with your Weather on the One's Forecast on Spectrum News.
