BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. -- The death of a rural North Carolina teen which made national headlines is the subject of a new documentary.

Prior coverage:

Always in Season will focus on the death of Bladenboro teen Lennon Lacy, which many considered by some community members and his family to be suspicious.

The documentary was announced Wednesday to premiere at the popular, long-running Sundance Film Festival. Started by actor Robert Redford, the festival is held yearly in Park City, Utah.

The official description of the documentary reads: "When 17-year-old Lennon Lacy is found hanging from a swing set in rural North Carolina in 2014, his mother’s search for justice and reconciliation begins as the trauma of more than a century of lynching African Americans bleeds into the present."

In 2016, the U.S. Attorney's Office said they found no evidence pointing to a homicide and the case is now closed.

Several neighbors who spoke with Spectrum News at the time declined to go on camera, but said they were concerned justice was not served and there is more to the case.

The Sundance Film Festival will take place from January 24 to February 3, 2019.
