BOONE, N.C. -- Boone is seeing snow and high winds! Wednesday morning saw a wind chill of -6 degrees.

Snow came down heavy overnight into early morning, causing problems. Main roads are OK, but back roads are partially covered.

The snow is mostly over with, but the blowing wind still has flakes flying. Plows are on the road, but salt does not work well with conditions under 15 degrees.

Schools in Avery, Watauga, and Ashe County are closed and Appalachain State canceled classes before 10 a.m., issuing an Adverse Weather Policy, Condition 2.
