CHARLOTTE -- Two non profits in Charlotte have teamed up to help immigrants passing through our area. Three times a day, Greyhound buses make a pit stop in the Queen City with migrant men, women, and children on their way to seek asylum with friends and family. They've recently been released from detention centers along the border - and are often left with no supplies.

Some of the biggest needs right now are money, pre-packaged food, and winter clothing.

"Most of these families are being released to go to families in NY, NJ, Boston. Places where climate is a lot more harsher than here, let alone where they're from - close to the equator. So we want to be very responsive," said Mayra Arteaga of Comunidad Colectiva.

This week, donations continue through Wednesday and resume next Monday, November 26. Volunteers will be out at the bus station throught the holiday and weekend. For more information on how to help, check out Comunidad Colectiva's Facebook page
