NORTH CAROLINA -- Two North Carolina ferry routes are getting an upgrade!

  • The NCODT has awarded a $22M contract to build 2 new ferries.
  • Each one will carry about 40 vehicles.
  • One will likely go to Cherry Branch and the other to Hatteras.

The Department of Transportation awarded a contract worth more than $22 million to build two ferries.

Each ferry will carry about 40 vehicles each.

DOT officials say the new ferries will be able to run any of the routes except for Cedar Island and Swan Quarter Sound routes.

We're told the most likely scenario will be that one will go to Cherry Branch and the other will go to Hatteras.
