Rain will pick up Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. The storm system could bring flooding rain and an icy wallop for our mountain and foothill counties.

A Flood Watch is active the much of the region Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening. Mountain and foothill counties are also under a Winter Storm Watch, as of this Tuesday evening posting.

Areas prone to flooding, could develop flooding if an additional 1.50" to 2.50"+ of rain fall through the period.  Given our heavy rain Monday, and the patchy precip Tuesday, the saturated soil can't really absorb much more.

Mountain counties could see an icy mix develop after sunset Wednesday.  Some data suggest up to 1/2" of ice, or more, is possible for the Mountains and adjacent foothills. Sleet would be better than freezing rain.  With a 1/2", or more, of freezing rain on trees and power lines, power outage could be numerous and last for several days in hard hit areas.

Let me stress, MUCH MAY YET CHANGE, with regard to the icy issue. We walk a very fine line here in NC with the cold air thickness that supports icy mayhem. This could turn out to be just a cold rain overall. But, given the data, as of this post, folks need to pay attention to our West.
