MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. -- The suspect in the Gastonia Amber Alert made his first appearance in court Wednesday.

57-year-old Maurice Knox is facing a laundry list of charges including two counts of kidnapping, assault on an officer, carjacking and child endangerment.

In court, Knox faced a judge and the judge said the bond would stay as is now. According to the detention center website, he was not given bond on the kidnapping charges or criminal trespassing, but for nine other charges his bond total is $24,500.

He is accused of kidnapping his 3-year-old daughter from a Gastonia apartment Sunday. Police say Knox fled with the girl to Charlotte where he carjacked another vehicle and fled.

Charlotte police officers say the U.S. Marshals Office engaged in a brief car chase with Knox. It all eventually ended in a three-car crash on Remount Road near I-77.

Knox previously been arrested five times in two different counties for domestic violence charges.

His next court appearance is set for November 16 for a probation violation. The other court date will be November 26 for a possible bond hearing.
