CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After four years, a major street in Charlotte is back open.

36th Street between Davidson and Tryon streets was shut down for construction on the Lynx Blue Line light rail service.

One City Council member says it will help people who live and work in the region.

"For the years that it took to reopen it...I think it's well worth it and what we've got now is something where we don't have to have people get stopped by a train for ten minutes, but easy access between North Davidson and North Tryon. I know it was very frustrating for folks who live on either side of that,” said Larken Egleston.

The Sugar Creek Road bridge over the Norfolk Southern and Lynx light rail tracks is expected to reopen by the end of the year.
