MOORE COUNTY, N.C. -- The Moore County Sheriff's Office is continuing the search for two suspects wanted for shooting at an Albemarle police officer.

  • Two suspects who shot at police in Moore County are still on the run.
  • A large search on Sunday was unsuccessful in locating the pair.
  • The suspects have not been named. 

Officials say two black males performed a drive-by shooting in Albemarle on Sunday. While fleeing the scene, they shot at the responding Albemarle police officers disabling the police car.

Deputies recovered a shotgun and anAK-47 that the suspects are believed to have used in the shootings. 

Multiple law enforcement agencies searched a wooded area on south of NC Highway 24 near Carthage on Sunday. This search consisted of helicopter searches, the use of drones, and K9 units.

Law enforcement tracked the suspects from NC Highway 24, the location where they abandoned their car, to Bethlehem Church Road where deputies found evidence believed to have been dropped by the suspects.

Deputies now believe the suspects have been picked up and transported out of the area. 

The suspects have not been identified.
