CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It was a cold start to our Sunday. Everyone in the viewing area was below freezing, and some mountain spots made it into the upper teens.

  • A quiet and chilly Sunday is unfolding around our area with lots of sun, piedmont highs in the lower 50s
  • We will likely be dry for much of Monday morning but rain will become widespread by later Monday afternoon
  • Most spots will likely see one to two inches of rain in the Monday-Tuesday time period

A quiet and chilly Sunday is unfolding around our area with lots of sun, piedmont highs in the lower 50s, and mountain highs in the 40s.

Our next storm system is organizing along the Gulf Coast and that system will spread rain into the region Monday. We will likely be dry for much of Monday morning but rain will become widespread by later Monday afternoon.

Due to the thickening clouds and arrival of rain, Monday will only have highs in the 40s for most of the piedmont.

Rain could be heavy at times Monday night, and I expect rain chances to remain high right through Tuesday.

Most spots will likely see one to two inches of rain in the Monday-Tuesday time period.

Clouds will likely remain with us Wednesday, and then another storm system rolls in Wednesday night and Thursday. Thursday now looks very wet with rain likely being widespread again.

As precipitation rolls in Thursday morning, there could be enough cold air trapped for at least a period of freezing rain in the mountains and northern foothills. We will watch it.

Over the upcoming weekend, another big shot of cold air is likely to arrive.
