CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A cold front has cleared east of the area, and a chilly airmass continues to blow into the Carolinas.

  • Up in the mountains, winds gusted over 40-50 mph at times last night into this morning but the winds will gradually relax a bit with time today
  • Sunday will be dry with continued chilly temps
  • Following that system, more chilly air is on the way for the remainder of the work week

Up in the mountains, winds gusted over 40-50 mph at times last night into this morning but the winds will gradually relax a bit with time today. Any lingering snowflakes in the High County are quickly ending as well.

Look for piedmont highs in the low to mid 50s today with mountain highs only in the 30s.

A freeze is on the way tonight. Most piedmont lows will be in the mid to upper 20s, and some mountain spots could dip into the upper teens.

Sunday will be dry with continued chilly temps.

Our next storm system then arrives Monday. By Monday afternoon, rain is likely, and temperatures will only make it into the 40s in most spots. Rain will remain likely through Monday night and much of Tuesday. The system will then likely end with some snowflakes in the mountains later Tuesday.

Rain totals on the order of 1-3" look likely Monday into Tuesday.

Following that system, more chilly air is on the way for the remainder of the work week.
