GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Have you dug out your sweaters and coats from the back of the closet yet?

  • Go get your coats and sweaters
  • Subfreezing temperatures late Saturday night
  • This year's first freeze is coming later than normal

You better get to it, the coldest weather so far this fall will arrive this weekend. Most locations around the Triad will see the subfreezing temperatures late Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Behind a cold front that will push across the region overnight we’ll see clouds clear out by sunrise Saturday morning. Gusty northwest winds will deliver plenty of cold air, so in spite of full sunshine, highs on Saturday and Sunday will only top out in the upper 40s and low 50s.

The coldest air of the weekend is expected late Saturday night into Sunday morning.  Temperatures will drop to the mid to upper 20s bringing an end to the growing season in the region.

This year's first freeze is coming later than normal. The average date for the first freeze of fall in the Piedmont is in late October.
