GASTON COUNTY -- Children with learning disabilities and in wheelchairs now have the chance to enjoy the fun of a playground.

  • The playground is located on Webb Street in Gastonia.
  • It cost around $290,000.
  • It is open to the public after 6 during the week and is open all day on the weekends.

For the past three years, Webb Street School has raised money for a wheelchair accessible playground, and it's now a reality.

The playground costs around $290,000 and was made possible by lots of support from the community.

The principal of Webb Street School says this is something their special needs students have really needed.

“For our students, a playground is much more than just play, this is cognitive recess for them,” said Webb Street School Principal Kelli Howe.

The playground is open to the public after 6 during the week and is open all day on the weekends.
