MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Lowe's has announced that they are closing 20 stores in the United States and 31 in Canada.

  • N.C.-based Lowe's is closing several locations.
  • The stores are expected to close by February 2019.
  • Employees will be given the opportunity to relocate to a nearby store. 

The Mooresville-based home improvement chain says that the closures are "part of its ongoing strategic reassessment to focus on its most profitable stores and improve the overall health of its store portfolio."

The company says the stores are expected to close by February. 1, 2019 and that employees at these stories will be given the opportunity to "transition to a similar role at a nearby Lowe's store."

Most of the locations are said to be within 10 miles of another store. 

States which have locations set to close are Alabama, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.
