WILMINGTON, NC — Movers were in and out of the Wilmington Fire Department Headquarters Friday.

  • Wilmington FD headquarters and one station was heavily damaged during Florence.
  • Firefighters will not be able to stay there until repairs are done and mold is taken care of.
  • Repairs are expected to take 3 to 6 months.

As firefighters are continuing to serve the community, they are also having to relocate.

The headquarters, as well as another local station, received extensive flood damage due to Hurricane Florence.

"The damage is extensive enough and is going to take quite awhile so we are going to have to temporarily relocate some individuals," says Natosha Vincent, the Public Information Officer for the Wilmington Fire Department.

Additionally, both facilities tested positive for mold, which will prevent firefighters from sleeping there.

Firefighters will be able to work in the downstairs areas while construction crews work upstairs.

As of right now, it is going to take three to six months to fix all of the damage.

"We are making the best of it. Our priority is keeping our citizens safe." says Vincent.

The Wilmington Fire Department asks its citizens for patience and understanding as they relocate.

Their temporary office will be located at 218 Second Street in Downtown Wilmington.
