COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. – A second arrest has been made in the shooting death of NC State Trooper Kevin K. Conner.

  • The Columbus County DA has charged a second person in relation to the shooting death of Trooper Kevin Conner.
  • The person has been identified as Chauncy Askew
  • Askew has been arrested and charged with first degree murder

The Columbus County District Attorney’s office made the announcement Tuesday morning.

The suspect has been identified as Chauncy Askew.

District Attorney Jon David says a 24-hour manhunt was necessary before Askew was taken into custody in South Carolina.

 

 

 

 

Trooper Conner was killed Wednesday, October 17 after stopping a white pickup truck for speeding on U.S. Highway 701 near Sellers Town Road in Columbus County.

The driver of the truck got out and fired several shots, striking the trooper twice and fled the scene.

The trooper, Kevin K. Conner, was taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries. 

Investigation revealed that the truck was stolen.

Deputies charged 20-year-old Raheem Davis of Chadbourn, who was driving the stolen pickup, with first degree murder.
