CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Hurricane threats caused a bumpy start to the season, but now Queen City business owners say this is peak pumpkin-picking weather.

At Simpson's Pumpkin Lot they say business slowed down during Tropical Storm Michael, and that pumpkins tend to go bad in warmer weather.

"The temperature for the early part of October was in the like mid-90s, high 80s, and for the pumpkins it tends to cook from the outside in because of the heat,” cashier Buffie Chaney said.

The Crowder family says they haven’t missed a picking season at the Simpson’s in 30 years.

“We wait for it every year, to come to the pumpkin patch,” Bertie Crowder said. “We absolutely have a blast.”
