GREENSBORO, N.C.-- Widespread power outages from Tropical Storm Michael continue to cause problems across Guilford County.

  • Through Oct. 24, you can get replacement benefits
  • You get the replacement benefits back on your EBT card
  • Amount of food that you lost cannot exceed the amount of your monthly allotment

The power is back on, but it's what they lost during the outage that families on food stamps are worried about. Thousands of Triad homes were without power for days, which ended with food spoiling. Many of those families impacted are on food benefits.

"Three hundred dollars’ worth of food, gone,” said Greensboro resident Calvin Carter.

"Right now, we're down to our last meal,” said Simone Richardson, another Greensboro resident.

Through Oct. 24, people in Guilford County receiving food and nutrition services benefits can get replacement benefits for lost food as a result of power outages.

"It's just a one-page affidavit that we ask you to complete. It takes about five minutes, so we get you in and out pretty quickly,” said Gregory Bush with Guilford County Social Services.

The county has 10 days to process your application.

"Keep in mind the amount of food that you lost cannot exceed the amount of your monthly allotment of benefits,” Bush explained.

You get the replacement benefits back on your EBT card. To apply for replacement benefits in Guilford County, head to 1203 Maple Street in Greensboro, or the High Point office at 325 East Russell Avenue.
