GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A suspect has been arrested in connection to a shooting and standoff with police on Tuesday.

It started out as a call to police about a disorderly subject on East Side Drive off Gate City Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound just before 3 p.m.

“They began interviewing witnesses immediately who advised there was a subject who had shot this individual and run back into a house on east side drive,” deputy chief Mike Richey with the Greensboro Police Department said.

It quickly turned into a high-risk barricade situation.

“We further found out there was possibly a seven month old child in the house,” Richey said.

Officers shut down the entire neighborhood.

"We immediately activated our special response team and locked down at least three schools in the area," Richey said.

Officers got word that the suspect was no longer inside the house then teams were able to get inside and rescue the child.

"At this time, the neighborhood is safe, it is secure. We’ve released lockdown from the schools so at this point it’s a matter of continuing the investigation” he said.

Police have yet to release the name of the suspect.
