RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA – After announcing FAST NC, or Florence Aid to Students and Teachers of North Carolina, the State Board of Education is putting the wheels in motion for monetary distribution.

  • So far, about $50,000 is in the fund
  • By the end of this week, the board is expecting to have the application process available so districts can request money for new school supplies, textbooks, and equipment
  • Also, the board voted to waive the mid-year reading assessment for grades 1-3 in areas impacted by Florence

So far, about $50,000 is in the fund and donations continue to pour in.

All in all, Florence is estimated to have caused more than $30 million in damage to NC schools.
