CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Early voting for the midterm election begins this week and experts are analyzing Mecklenburg County voter data.

  • Since 2012 independent voters have surpassed republicans in voter registration numbers for the county
  • Women make up 52 percent of registered voters in Mecklenburg County
  • Early voting begins Wednesday October 13 and goes through Saturday November 3

According to Michael Dickerson, Director of Elections for Mecklenburg County, since 2012 independent voters have surpassed republicans in voter registration numbers for the county.

Dr. J. Michael Blitzer, Professor of Political Science at Cataba College, said women make up 52 percent of registered voters in Mecklenburg County.

Blizter also said this year democrats have nearly double the amount of absentee ballot requests then republicans in Mecklenburg County.

Blizter said "Typically they are not the party that dominates in mail in absentee ballots, they wait to do it in person, but this is pretty significant and the trend has been holding for some time now.

Early voting begins Wednesday October 13 and goes through Saturday November 3. Election day is Tuesday November 6.
