CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – Lake Arbor Apartment residents say they've been dealing with moldy furniture and roach covered floors for months.

Members of Charlotte Code Enforcement met with property owners and their attorneys Tuesday to talk about a plan of action but tenants said they weren't allowed at this meeting.

“We haven’t heard back from anyone! To me, it’s like a big secret we stay there so we should be apart of every meeting they have with the owner,” said Iyanna Fleming, Lake Arbor resident.

She's not the only one who feels that way.

“We don’t have the authority that I belive we should have to protect you the resident, everything is really set up to protect the business owner,” said Councilwoman Lawana Mayfield.

Mayfield said attorneys representing Lake Arbor residents should be present at future meetings with property managers. She also wants the state's Attorney General Josh Stein to get involved.

So far, code enforcement staff have inspected every unit on the complex, and bought 61 of them up to code.

A city of Charlotte spokesperson sent Spectrum News this statement about Lake Arbor apartments: “To support residents and remedy code enforcement violations at Lake Arbor Apartments, the City of Charlotte held a productive meeting today to collectively discuss with property management representatives their commitment to a path forward. We will share with Lake Arbor residents, city leaders and community stakeholders the details of Lake Arbor management’s corrective action plan by week’s end.”
