NORTH CAROLINA -- Ivanka Trump is stopping in North Carolina to get a look at how technical colleges are preparing worker for the future and tour Florence disaster areas.

She made her first stop at the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville Wednesday morning. The visit is part of an administrative push on vocational skills training.

"The reality is we need to rethink human potential. We can no longer have kids graduate from third grade not knowing how to read," she said. "We also can't have a workforce that doesn't have people who are skilled with or who have the skills that are required to secure jobs in the modern economy, and that's what we're looking to address on a variety of different levels," she said.

Later on Wednesday, Ivanka Trump will visit the Mooresville Fire Department to meet with the search and rescue team deployed during Hurricane Florence.

She is also expected to tour a disaster recovery zone in eastern North Carolina in order to see firsthand the damage Florence caused.
