NORTH CAROLINA -- Governor Roy Cooper took action to help in Hurricane Florence relief efforts.

The governor signed into law two bills lawmakers sent to his desk Tuesday after a special session.

One of the bills is aimed at untangling the public school calendar. The second tackles the voter registration deadline.

Lawmakers said they wanted these recovery efforts to start as soon as humanly possible.

"We know this is probably the most devastating storm that North Carolina has ever experienced," said Gov. Cooper. "We need to come together now more than ever to make sure we step up for the people of North Carolina."
