CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A UNC Charlotte basketball player has been suspended indefinitely after being charged with misdemeanor assault on a female.

Police say 21-year-old Najee Garvin was arrested Thursday and released on bond Friday night.

UNCC’s athletic department released a statement saying:

"UNC Charlotte is aware of the arrest of student-athlete Najee Garvin. Garvin has been indefinitely suspended from all team activities. The university is reviewing the case consistent with its internal procedures. In light of the ongoing investigation, the university will not provide further comments."
