Autumn officially begins this evening, but it doesn't look like Mother Nature got the memo... Piedmont highs will warm into the upper 80s to near 90.

A cold front is nearing from the northwest, and that front will kick off a good number of mountain showers and storms this afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 70s up that way. Outside of the mountains, an isolated shower or storm is possible, but rain chances overall remain very small.

That cold front will slide just to our south Sunday, and the region will be in the grips of a wedge, or cold air damming scenario. That will result in lots of clouds, a few showers being possible, and much cooler temperatures.

Look for piedmont and foothill highs in the mid and upper 70s Sunday and Monday with mountain highs only in the 60s.

Warmer weather will creep back in here later next week.
